Copying an enactment in a book being authored by me: is it O.K.?

I am authoring a book and as part of it I wish to quote verbatim an Act passed by Parliament.  This will from a very small part of the book.  Is there any objection to this?

Alasdair Taylor's Answer

Is this is an Act of the UK Parliament?

If so, then it would be prima facie covered by Crown Copyright as per s164 of the CDPA 1988:

Her Majesty is entitled to copyright in every Act of Parliament, Act of the Scottish Parliament, Measure of the National Assembly for Wales, Act of the National Assembly for Wales, Act of the Northern Ireland Assembly or Measure of the General Synod of the Church of England.

However, subject to certain conditions the rights to prevent reproduction of this type of Crown Copyright material have been waived.  Accordingly, verbatim reproduction is usually permissible.
