Is there grounds for libel?

A 12 year old classmate of my daughter made a web page naming my daughter and a fellow student and insinuating untruths. I called the mother and she has since taken down the web page her daughter made. However, I have a picture of the web page on my phone and pasted a copy to a word document that I sent to the appropruate school officials. My daughter is very upset and we are also upset. I just want to know my options should this happen again.

Alasdair Taylor's Answer

Not all untruths are defamatory, even if they are upsetting. The question, in general, is whether they published statements could have a serious negative impact upon the reputation of the claimant. Without more detail, I obviously cannot comment upon whether this test is met in your case.
