Website address details

If an author has a website to promote themselves and their work, but does not take direct purchase on their website, do they have to include their address/contact details on the site?

For example, they have a book that is only available to purchase on Amazon and other e-book retailers, the author’s site just includes links to the e-book listing on Amazon etc.

Thank you!

Alasdair Taylor's Answer

Under English law there are four main sources of address publication obligations for websites, but I don’t think any of the obligations apply here.

  • Companies law – there is no corporate entity.
  • Distance sales law – there is no distance selling.
  • Ecommerce regulations – there is no “information society service”.
  • Provision of services regulations – there is no relevant service.
