Is Gambling Legal in Mississippi? Gambling Laws in 2026

Yes, gambling is legal in Mississippi through specified casino, Choctaw tribal, sports, Lottery, fantasy and charitable-gaming channels. Each has its own conditions; casinos do not authorize statewide online gambling.[1][2][3]

Mississippi gambling laws distinguish where a bet is placed and which product is offered. Our US gambling laws guide explains the wider framework.

Commercial casinos and Choctaw gaming

Casinos are legal in Mississippi through commercial and tribal systems. Commercial casino sites follow geographical restrictions, including qualifying coastal and Mississippi River county locations. Some coastal casinos use authorized onshore structures; they do not all have to float.[10]

Commercial casinos

The Mississippi Gaming Commission, or MGC, regulates commercial casinos. Its property reports identify Central, Coastal and Northern venues and their game categories, including physical poker. Check the current property report and operator licence list.[5][13][14][15]

Choctaw gaming

The Choctaw Gaming Commission exercises tribal authority under the tribe's gaming code. Class III casino-type gaming also depends on the compact and tribal/federal framework. These casinos are not simply MGC commercial licensees.[6]

Is sports betting legal in Mississippi?

Yes, sports betting is legal in Mississippi through authorized casino channels. Approved mobile wagering is limited to specified premises; it does not permit betting from home or anywhere within the state.[2]

Inside an approved wagering area

MGC rules allow approved mobile devices and applications within approved casino and hotel facilities. Initial wagering-account verification must occur in person. Check the venue's approved area rather than assuming every part of a resort permits betting.[2]

Outside that area

Parking lots and parking garages are excluded. An app working for account access does not establish permission to place an off-property wager. A casino brand's app in another state also does not establish Mississippi approval.[2]

Pearl River Resort separately describes PRR Sports wagering on Pearl River Resort and Bok Homa premises. Off-premises access to account history is not permission to bet there; the tribal offering has its own authority and verification process.[6][16]

Two 2026 statewide mobile bills failed. HB1581 died in Senate committee on March 3, and the later HB4074 died there on March 17. House passage was not a statewide launch.[17][18]

Is online gambling legal in Mississippi?

Some online gambling is legal in Mississippi, including licensed fantasy contests and limited approved-premises sports apps. General internet casino and poker sites are not authorized by those permissions.[2][3][8][9]

Check the actual product

A licensed fantasy company, on-property sportsbook and event-contract app offer different products. A familiar brand or successful signup does not make their permissions interchangeable.[2][8][19][12]

Offshore casino websites

MGC's enforcement notice rejects unlicensed internet casino and sports operations. A foreign licence or sweepstakes label does not create Mississippi authorization.[3]

How old do you have to be to gamble in Mississippi?

Casino gambling, sports betting and Lottery play require 21 in Mississippi. Regulated fantasy generally uses 18, but fantasy on casino premises requires 21. Bingo has a specific accompanied-minor exception.[4][8][9][7][20]

Activity Age or eligibility Scope
Commercial casino games
21
No collecting winnings through an adult agent.[4]
Sports wagering
21
Commercial gaming age rule.[4]
Choctaw gaming premises
21
Tribal gaming code; not every resort amenity.[6]
Lottery
21
Official player minimum.[7]
Regulated fantasy off casino premises
18
Operator and contest rules apply.[9]
Fantasy on casino premises
21
Separate location-specific rule.[8]
Bingo under age 18
Parent/legal guardian required
Venue may exclude all minors.[20]

A venue's bingo exclusion can be stricter than the accompanied-minor exception. Minors also cannot help operate bingo.[20]

Lottery tickets and app features

You cannot buy Mississippi Lottery tickets online. Tickets are sold at approved retailers, and players must be at least 21.[7]

The official app scans tickets, checks results, supports second-chance entries and helps find retailers. Those features do not make it an online ticket shop.[21]

Use the official retailer locator to find a seller and the Lottery FAQ for current purchase rules.[7][22]

Horse wagering and casino race books

Mississippi permits approved casino race books to offer simulcasting and pari-mutuel wagering on approved out-of-state races. The operation must be in an approved gaming area.[2]

That authorization does not mean every sportsbook currently takes horse wagers. Check the particular casino's offering before travelling or opening an account.[2]

General at-home internet horse-account permission was not established for this guide. Do not treat a racing website accepting registration as proof of Mississippi approval; ask the venue or MGC about the specific channel.

Is home poker legal in Mississippi?

A cash poker game is not automatically legal in Mississippi because it takes place at home or nobody takes a rake. The general betting prohibition and lawful exceptions do not provide a blanket private-game exemption.[1][10]

Games without a wager or valuable prize involve a different question. Calling a money game social does not itself remove the gambling elements.[1]

Licensed physical casino poker is a separate lawful channel documented in MGC property reports. It does not authorize independent poker clubs, home games or internet poker sites.[3][13]

Bingo, raffles and charity fundraising

Qualifying charitable bingo and nonprofit raffles are legal in Mississippi under specific conditions. The raffle exception covers specified nonprofit civic, educational, wildlife conservation and religious organizations when all proceeds go to that organization. Bingo must meet the Charitable Bingo Law and licensing rules.[11]

Charitable purpose alone does not authorize poker, roulette or other casino fundraising games. Check the actual activity and organization rather than relying on a fundraising label.[1]

For bingo, an under-18 player must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. A venue can instead post notice excluding all under-18 entrants. Minors cannot assist with holding or operating bingo.[20]

MGC's linked industry guidance also excludes school-age children from playing or entering licensed bingo premises during school hours.[23]

Start from MGC's charitable licensee map link and ask the agency about the specific event or organization.[24]

Are daily fantasy sports legal in Mississippi?

Yes, daily fantasy sports are legal in Mississippi when the operator and contest meet the applicable rules. The operator framework uses an annual roster threshold of 100 or more public participants. Private leagues need separate analysis.[8][9]

Qualifying contests use skill and accumulated individual-performance statistics. Prize values must be established and disclosed in advance. Outcomes cannot depend on the score, spread or performance of an actual team or combination of teams, or solely on one athlete in one event. Collegiate, high-school and youth-sports contests are prohibited.[8][9]

HB519 proposed removing the college restriction but died in committee on February 3, 2026. It did not change that rule.[25]

MGC's August 21, 2026 active fantasy-company list names DK Crown Holdings, Yahoo Fantasy Sports, FanDuel and Underdog Sports. Match the company and product: a fantasy licence does not approve every game, sportsbook or pick'em offering under a brand.[19]

Sweepstakes casinos and prediction markets

Sweepstakes casinos

A sweepstakes label does not make online casino gambling legal in Mississippi. MGC's June 17, 2025 notice says consideration, chance and a valuable prize can establish unlawful gambling despite the label. It also reports enforcement against unlicensed online casino and sports operations.[3]

The proposed 2026 SB2104 changes died in House committee on March 3. Its proposed penalties did not become law, but its failure did not repeal existing restrictions.[26]

The notice is an agency enforcement position, not a judgment on every promotional contest. Our sweepstakes casino legality guide explains the wider model.

Prediction markets

Prediction platforms such as Kalshi and Polymarket should not be treated as Mississippi-licensed sportsbooks merely because their apps are accessible. Mississippi joined an April 30, 2026 coalition urging the CFTC to respect state gambling authority over event contracts.[12]

That advocacy is not a Mississippi injunction or final federal-preemption ruling. No later Mississippi-specific court position for these platforms was verified for this guide. Their status must be considered separately from licensed sports and fantasy channels.

How to check Mississippi gambling permission

Match the operator's legal entity, product, location and current permission.

Commercial casinos

Check MGC's operator reports and property data for the actual venue and game category.[5][14][15]

Fantasy companies

Use the active fantasy list, checking entity, approval and expiry rather than assuming every branded product qualifies.[19]

Tribal sports apps

Read PRR's wagering-location rules; account access outside the resort is not off-premises betting.[16]

Lottery retailers

Use the official retail locator. Lottery tickets are not sold online.[7][22]

Charitable gaming

Follow MGC's charitable licensee map link and verify the organization's permitted activity.[24]

Commercial casino disputes

Follow MGC's patron-complaint process promptly. Tribal disputes require the relevant tribal route.[6][27]
