Broken machine

I bought a bread making machine which broke soon after I got it home. I didn’t damage it in any way – it just broke on its own. The manager at the shop I bought it from says I have to take it back to the manufacturer, and he won’t help. Can he say this?

If you’re in the UK, the shop that sold the product to you has an obligation to deal with this.  If you’re outside the UK, the law may well be similar.
